Teenage Reverie

Ghost do not rest.

Back in high school, Jaguar emerged as the most desirable car brand in a teenager’s empirical study for a literature class. However, it is worth noting that the study’s sampling might not have been the most accurate, as it focused on the responses of the most attractive students in the class.

Nevertheless, for that teenager, it served as the cornerstone for an essay about brand, earning the highest grade, and an opening line. There could have been better ones, but little did he know back then about pick-up lines.

Many years have passed since those high school days. The Jaguar did not arrive in time to the ball but that is perfectly fine – better late than never. A foot on the brake and a steady finger on the start button. Even though, the hand no longer shakes for excitement, the start-up puts a smile on the face every time. A few more years and the growling sound will fade away like a ghost, never to return. That is why it is essential to savour the present while it lasts. Fall is rapidly approaching, signifying a world further immersed in the era of electric cars. The ghosts are not ready.

The weather is unpredictable. The clouds are hanging low, as if they were on the verge of shedding tears for what lies ahead. Rain could pour at any moment but what is the purpose of owning a convertible if one is constantly worried about the future? Life is happening now, and right now, it is not raining. So the top stays down. And besides, that teenager used to see a yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder driving around the city in freezing temperatures and snow. The owner, a surgeon, wore a beanie. Why cannot a lawyer wear a bucket hat then?

The 575 hp under the bonnet could have been a recipe for disaster in the teenager’s hands, especially if he had followed the surgeon’s example. The F-Type P450 with its rear-wheel drive and 450 horsepower, was already a beast, capable of putting you into a wall at the slightest misstep on the throttle. Fortunately, Jaguar’s production team did not go completely overboard with the final model, the F-Type, and equipped it with a four-wheel-drive. Otherwise, it would have been a way too much to handle, even for the most prudent drivers, especially when slippery conditions like rain.

The metallic Giola Green paint exudes a remarkable allure, whether day or night, dusty or clean. The blacked-out Jaguar badges add to its overall aesthetic appeal. There is something appealing about the sleek lines and muscular curves which keep turning heads despite age. And when the luck runs out and it starts raining the top down, the attention the F-Type and its driver gets, is on another level, understandably so. After all, no one would be foolish enough to drive in the rain with the top down. Except perhaps a ghost, still living in a teenage dream.

At the end of the day, it is about embracing the freedom to experience life’s moments, even in less-than-ideal conditions. Ghost do not rest, that is part of the etiquette.
